COEJL and JCPA held a webinar discussion for the JCPA community on hydraulic fracturing or hydrofracking, the process by which natural gas is extracted from shale rock by horizontally drilling and using a pressurized fluid of water, sand, and chemicals which fractures the rock and releases the gas. This environmentally challenging issue is of concern to the Jewish community as hydrofracking is currently occurring in 32 states around the country.

Three experts presented their viewpoints:
• John Rumpler, Senior Environmental Attorney, Environment America
• Gregory C. Staple, CEO, American Clean Skies Foundation
• Mark Brownstein, Chief Counsel, Environmental Defense Fund (EDF)
